Update for the restriction threshold of aniline in Indigo for OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT

As of 01.09.2024, OEKO-TEX® will adapt the testing method for measuring the content of aniline in indigo colourants. The new test method takes into consideration the physical form (powder or leuco) of the indigo colourants.

With the implementation of this new reduction testing method, the detection of aniline in powdered indigo will increase.

One advantage of this new testing method is that it allows for more precise measurement of aniline in powdered indigo.

Consequently, as of 01.09.2024 the threshold for aniline in indigo colourants has been revised for OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT as follows:

  • The threshold value for aniline will be 400 mg/kg and limit value for certification with restriction will be 2'000 mg/kg.
  • The test results are normalized to 100% concentration of indigo (especially for the leuco-form).

Please see the adaptions in the ECO PASSPORT standard.
